Singer Maggie Stredder, who was an original member of the legendary Vernons Girls, has died, aged 82. She had been ill for some time and died on Friday.
She had a long and memorable career backing most of the greats of British music, and, of course, the comedy great Benny Hill.
Maggie occasionally sang for Dusty, notably in vision on Gonna Build A Mountain in 1966. She last backed Dusty on Save Me, Save Me, which was edited from the Shirley Bassey Show in 1979. On that occasion I was a “Ladybird” for a night, something I treasure.
Maggie attended a Dusty Day some years ago & was an absolute delight.
RIP Maggie.
